【阅读理解】阅读文章选出正确的答案。 It used to be so straightforward. A team of researchers working together in the laboratory would submit the results of their research to a journal. A journal editor would then remove the author’s names and affiliations from the paper and send it to their peers for review. Depending on the comments received, the editor would accept the paper for publication or decline it. Copyright rested with the journal publisher, and researchers seeking knowledge of the results would have to subscribe to the journal. No longer, The Internet---and pressure from funding agencies, who are questioning why commercial publishers are making money from government--funded research by restricting access to it---is making access to scientific results a reality. The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) was just issued a report describing the far-reaching consequences of this. The report, by john Houghton of Victoria University in Australia and Graham Vickery of the OECD, makes heavy reading for publishers who have, so far, made handsome profits. But it goes further than that. It signals a change in what has, until now, been a key element of scientific endeavor. The value of knowledge and the return on the public investment in research depends, in part, upon wide distribution and ready access. It is big business. In America, the core scientific publishing market if estimated at between 7 billion and II billion. The International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical publishers says that there are more than 2,000 publishers worldwide specializing in these subjects. They publish more than 1.2 million articles each year in some 16,000 journals. This is now changing. According to the OECD report, some 75% of scholarly journals are now online. Entirely new business models are emerging; three ones were identified by the report's author. There is the so-called big deal, where institutional subscribers pay for access to a collection of online journal titles through site licensing agreements. There is open-access publishing, typically supported by asking the author (or his employer)for the paper to be published. Finally, there are open-access archives, where originations such as universities of international laboratories support institutional repositories. Other models exist that are hybrids of these three, such as delayed open-access, where journals allow only subscribers to read a paper for the first six months, before making it freely available to everyone who wishes to see it. All this could change the traditional form of the peer-review process, at least for the publication of papers.一、 In the first paragraph, the author discusses____. A、the background information of journal editing. B、the publication routine of laboratory reports. C、the relations of authors with journal publishers. D、the traditional process of journal publication. 二、 Which of the following is true of the OECD report? A、It criticizes government-funded research. B、It introduces an effective means of publication. C、It upsets profit-making journal publishers. D、It benefits scientific research considerably. 三、 According to the text, online publication is significant in that____. A、it provides an easier access to scientific results. B、it brings huge profits to scientific researchers. C、it emphasizes the crucial role of scientific knowledge. D、it facilitates public investment in scientific research. 四、 With the open-access publishing model, the author of a paper if required to____. A、cover the cost of its publication. B、subscribe to the journal publishing it. C、allow other online journals to use it freely. D、complete the peer-review before submission. 五、 Which of the following best summarizes the main idea of the passage? A、The Internet is posing a threat to publishers. B、A new modal of publication is emerging. C、Authors welcome the new channel for publication D、Publication is rendered easier by online service

Hawking was born in Oxford, England, on January 8, 1942. During his life, he married twice, and had three children. When he was a kid, Hawking went to school in St. Albans—a small city near London. Although he did well, he was never top of his class. After leaving high school, Hawking went first to Oxford University to study physics, and then he went to Cambridge University to study the universe(宇宙). At the age of twenty, Hawking started noticing that something was wrong with him. Later, he went to the hospital and doctors said that he would die before he was 23. But Hawking didn't give up. In 1988, Hawking completed his book A Brief History of Time. In the book, he talked about many things, like the universe, the big bang(宇宙大爆炸) and the black hole.(1)At which university did Hawking study physics?A.Oxford University. B.St Albans University. A mobile phone can include many things, such as games, music and Internet access (互联网接入). Today, 4.6 billion people around the world have mobile phones, according to CBS News. However, mobile phones may cause cancer, according to the World Health Organization. In a 2010 study, people who used a mobile phone for 10 years or more were more than twice as likely to get brain cancer, according to CNN. "I think it is a good idea to give the public some kind of warning that long﹣term exposure (暴露) to radiation (辐射) from your mobile phone could possibly cause cancer, " told Dr. Henry Lai. Lai is a scientist of bioengineering (生物工程) at the University of Washington who has studied radiation for more than 30 years. These suggestions may help you reduce your risk of cancer: 1.Use a headset (耳机) or speaker. Headsets give out much less radiation than phones. Some headsets give out low﹣level radiation. However, you should take the headset off your ear when you're not talking to anyone. Using your phone with a speaker will also make it safer. 2.Listen more, talk less. Your iphone gives out radiation when you talk or text, but not when you're listening or getting messages. Listening more and talking less can lower the risk of cancer. 3.Hold the phone away from your body. Hold the phone away from your body when you're talking, not against your ear. Also, don't keep it in your pocket. 4.Choose texting over talking. Phones, give out less radiation to send texts than to carry a person's voice. Texting also keeps radiation away from your head. 5.Poor signal? Stay off the phone. A poor signal means that the phone needs to give out more radiation to work. Make and take calls when your phone has a strong signal.(1)The study from 2010 showed that________.A.people should use mobile phones for no more than 10 yearsB.people who don't use mobile phones will not get brain cancerC.the longer people use mobile phones, the more likely they are to get brain cancerD.the more mobile phones people have, the more likely they are to get brain cancer.(2)Which is NOT true about the suggestions mentioned in the passage?________A.Some headsets don't give out radiation.B.It's not good to carry mobile phones in pockets.C.Texting is better than making phone calls.D.on't make calls when the signal is weak..(3)The passage mainly talks about________.A.the development and advantages of mobile phonesB.the reason why mobile phone radiation causes cancerC.the best ways to use mobile phones to communicateD.how to protect ourselves from mobile phone radiation. There are lots of dangerous and terrible insects in Northeastern India, but the tree﹣bees are the most terrible. They are killers. Unlike most bees which will sting (叮咬) you only if they are disturbed (打扰), tree﹣bees will attack you in thousands for no reason. And they will chase (追赶) you for your life. Walking along a dusty road while I was on holiday there last year. I found myself, without the least warning, the centre of such an attack. The air above me suddenly became thick with bees. Though it was hot, I went cold all over. Until then I had never heard of Indian tree﹣bees, but I had recently seen a film called "The Angry Swarm", which was about killer﹣bees. I began running to the village about half a mile away, but I was soon covered from head to foot with bees. I drove them away with my hands, only to make room for others. Each time I opened my mouth for breath, more bees entered my mouth, until it was stung to twice its usual size and I could hardly breathe. When I reached the village, I found some workers building a house. I ran towards them for help. But as soon as the workers saw the bees with me, they ran for safety at top speed. Soon my eyes had completely closed. I fell into a pile of brick dust. I pushed myself wildly down into it until my head and shoulders were covered. And then I tried hard to get out of the dust, the angry bees made a new attack on me. I was tired out and ran weakly about in circles. Soon I lost my consciousness (意识). Later I learned that two quick﹣minded villagers ran to a pile of dry grass and quickly surrounded (包围) me with a thick wall of fire and smoke until the bees were driven away. They stayed with me, taking stings out of my body for the next three hours until a doctor came and gave me further treatment.(1)What can we infer (推断) from the second paragraph?________A. DOver the past decade, the growth in highskilled jobs has largely been limited to Australia's biggest cities. Meanwhile, in rural and regional Australia lowerskilled jobs have been growing fastest. This skills gap is increasing regional differences in income and employment opportunities, despite the promises of technology and infrastructure as solutions to the tyranny of remoteness. Our research finds that jobs, particularly the highly skilled, whitecollar kind, are becoming increasingly collaborative(协作的). Complex tasks and rapidly changing work environments have increased the need for workers who can collaborate with others to solve problems and who are open to continuous learning. Roles for highly skilled workers are becoming more specialized. This specialization means more collaboration with other specialists and greater space for market positioning. The productive advantages of cities are selfreinforcing. Skilled workers benefit from the opportunity to learn from and add value with other skilled workers. The coordination(协调)costs of this collaborative work are reduced when team members are colocated.Employers also benefit from proximity(接近)to similar firms because there is a larger pool of skilled candidates for new jobs and better access to potential business partners. All these advantages encourage further specialization and productivity gains, with the result that workers and business continue to concentrate around large city centers. The growing skills divide between urban and rural Australia reflects a paradox(悖论)of the digital economy. While digital technology represents a channel for bridging geographic distance, highly skilled workers are increasingly crowding into cities. The latest census(人口普查)data shows no change in the rate of working from home, despite muchimproved digital infrastructure in some areas. In time this may change, perhaps as video confferencing technology improves. However, while better technology might allow regional workers to interact with colleagues and clients in cities. it will also make it easier for citybased professionals to service regional areas.Employment is still growing in regional Australia. But the fact that cities make highly skilled workers more productive means the gap in skilled employment is likely to continue to widen.Attempts to swim against this tide by moving skilled jobs to the country will be expensive. Currently, subsidies(补助金)are needed to attract and retain(保留)highly skilled health professionals to regional communities. Despite this, our analysis of the latest census data shows that the skills gap between regions and cities is still growing. So these subsidies are not translating into sustainable, collaborative communities of highskilled regional workers. Instead, regions need to focus on their strengths, and foster the entrepreneurship that can create new sources of gainful employment. The government's move towards more individualised funding arrangements in the aged care and disability care sectors will increasingly become a resilient(有弹性的) source of income for workers and businesses in regional communities. Demand for aged care services is expected to increase dramatically in the coming decades, such that by 2050 some 3.5 million Australians will require aged care. Adding to this, regional communities are experiencing population ageing at a faster rate than the large capital cities. These are important jobs which should be recognised as such. There will be opportunities for regional businesses to provide the technology and services (ranging from personalised transport to food services)which allow older people and Australians with disability to remain active and healthy.Currently people from the regions who are eager for professional careers typically move to the city to study. In many cases they do not return. Here, technology may be part of the solution. Combining specialised online educational resources with good local support teachers could enable students to access a much wider range of courses from regional areas.Regional communities will also need entrepreneurs(企业家)to develop the future industries and microbusinesses which improve the diversity and resilience of the local economy. However, startups and existing businesses are more likely to survive and expand when there is a supportive entrepreneurship ecosystem, including access to relevant skills development opportunities.1What is the remarkable characteristic of the highskilled job?A. Collaboration.B. Complexity.C. Organization.D. Sustainability.2Workers and business continue to concentrate around large city centers in that __________ .A. highly skilled workers increase the coordination costsB. potential business partners live close to large city centersC. they encourage selfdependence and increase differencesD. they benefit from specialization and productive advantages3What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 5mean?A. Digital infrastructure in some areas have been greatly improved.B. The lowerskilled workers are likely to have a considerable income.C. Digital technology doesn't necessarily bridge the gap in skilled employment.D. Combining online resources with local support teachers is a good way.B. Entrepreneurs can improve the diversity to develop their own industries.C. Regional communities supply sufficient subsidies to pay skilled workers.D. Supportive entrepreneurship ecosystems play a crucial role in regional areas.6What does the passage mainly talk about?A. Lowskilled jobs have been growing fast in regional Australia.B. Regional Australia is committed to the development of local economy.C. The skill jobs gap is increasing between cities and regions in Australia.D. Highly skilled workers crowd into cities to pursue career development.
阅读理解 The Chinese Antarctica expedition returned to Shanghai last Friday following a month living on the ice.It was the First time Chinese scientists had visited the Amery Ice Shelf?the longest ice shelf in the world. The team collected ice samples and data on temperatures, which are necessary for research on global warming. So far, about 27 countries have visited Antarctica for scientific research.Although the living conditions are very hard, many scientists have to stay there for long periods of time. So, how do they manage their lives on the ice? During the summer, the temperature in Antarctica reaches about -20℃.It falls to about -60℃ in winter. So, even if there are 24 hours of sunshine, scientists must keep wearing all the correct clothes to protect them from the cold. These clothes include jeans, running shoes, jackets, long underwear, boots and woolen socks.Although highly technical clothing provides much protection against the extreme cold, scientists often need to go outside when there is an icy wind blowing and the temperature is -30℃.Natural protection such as facial hair can also help."That's why many researchers wear a beard. It really does keep you warm, " says German explorer Arved Fuchs. Usually, the polar researchers have good meals. Some even have feasts on holidays like Christmas and New Year's Day.Vegetables are always welcomed and usually finished the quickest.Life on the ice means living with other researchers in tight living spaces. Most people sleep in dormitory.More remote field camps use separate tents.So.at least some researchers don't have to put up with annoying snorers . (1) Why did researchers visit Amery Ice Shelf? [ ] A. Because Amery Ice Shelf is the largest and most typical ice shelf. B. Because they wanted to challenge themselves in extreme climate. C. Because they desired to collect ice samples and data to study global warming. D. Because they were curious of the living conditions there. (2) What is the matter that researchers care most for living in Antarctica? [ ] A. Taking advantage of rare sunshine B. Putting up with annoying bears C. Having access to rich food D. Protecting themselves from coldness (3) What most describes the living space of most researchers on the Amery Ice Shelf? [ ] A. Small B. Changing C. Remote D. Unbearable (4) What does the underlined word of "snorers" mean? [ ] A. Those who wear a beard B. Those who like to do research on their own C. Those who have vegetables as their main food D. Those who breathe roughly and noisily while sleeping

The increase in international business and in foreign investment has created a need for executives with knowledge of foreign languages and skills in cross-cultural communication. Americans, however, have not been well trained in either area and, consequently, have not enjoyed the same level of success in negotiation in an international arena as have their foreign counterparts. Negotiating is the process of communicating back and forth for the purpose of reaching an agreement. It involves persuasion and compromise, but in order to participate in either one, the negotiators must understand the ways in which people are persuaded and how compromise is reached within the culture of the negotiation. In many international business negotiations abroad, Americans are perceived as wealthy and impersonal. It often appears to the foreign negotiator that the American represents a large multi-million-dollar corporation that can afford to pay the price without bargaining further. The American negotiator’s role becomes that of an impersonal supplier of information and cash. In studies of American negotiators abroad, several traits have been identified that may serve to confirm this stereotypical perception, while undermining the negotiator’s position. Two traits in particular that cause cross-cultural misunderstanding are directness and impatience on the part of the American negotiator. Furthermore, American negotiators often insist on realizing short-term goals. Foreign negotiators, on the other hand, may value the relationship established between negotiators and may be willing to invest time in it for long-term benefits. In order to solidify the relationship, they may opt for indirect interactions without regard for the time involved in getting to know the other negotiator. Clearly, perceptions and differences in values affect the outcomes of negotiations and the success of negotiators. For Americans to play a more effective role in international business negotiations, they must put forth more effort to improve cross-cultural understanding. [共5题](1)What kind of manager is needed in present international business and foreign investment? [本题2分]A. The man who represents a large multi-million-dollar corporation. B. Americans experience more food recalls (召回) today than they did five years ago, especially when it comes to meat and poultry (家禽). Meat and poultry recalls increased by two-thirds from 2013 to 2018, while food recalls overall went up 10%, according to the report recently published by the U.S. Public Interest Research Group.Meanwhile, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates (估计) 48 million people get sick, 128,000 are hospitalized and 3,000 die from food-borne disease each year in the U.S. "We are looking for the farm-to-fork preventative solutions," said Adam Garber, the research group's consumer watchdog. "By doing that, we can protect people's health."Over the five-year period, poultry posted the most recalls (168), followed by beef (137) and pork (128). The report shows the most serious meat recalls are on the rise. Among meat and poultry, the number of Class I recalls has increased by 83%, nearly doubling. Class I, the most serious of the recalls, is issued when there is a reasonable probability that the food will cause health problems or death.53. When would Class I recalls be issued?A. When the food is likely to cause health problems or death.B. When there are too many complaints from customers.C. When the food problem lasts for five years.D. The Harry Potter series, written by J.K. Rowling, is perhaps the most popular set of novels of the modern era. With seven books and many successful films to its name, the series has gathered about 15 billion dollars in sales. How did the series become so popular? The reason can be broken down into several areas. The first book in the series was rejected 12 times before it was picked up by Bloomsbury—a small publisher in England. So receiving this contract was Rowling's first step to success. However, getting a book contract does not ensure the success of a book. The story was soon loved by children and adults alike. In light of this, Bloomsbury Publishing published a second version of the books with “adult” (less colorful and more boring) book covers. This made it easier for a full range of ages to enjoy the series.Another factor that worked like a charm was that the publisher and Rowling herself, through the books, conducted midnight releases, promotions, and pre-ordering more readers. Customers who feared that their local bookstore would run out of copies responded by pre-ordering over 700,000 copies before the July 8, 2000 release. What does the underlined word “releases” (Para. 3) mean?A. The activity that frees or expresses energy or emotion.B. The announcement about the book’s publishing information.C. The sales of books that is available only at midnight.
Most children with healthy appetites are ready to eat almost anything that is offered them and a child rarely dislikes food (51) it is badly cooked. If the father says he hates fat meat or the mother refuses vegetables in the child’s hearing he is (54) to copy this procedure. Take it (55) granted that he likes everything and he probably will. Nothing healthful should be omitted from the meal because of a (56) dislike. At meal times it is a good idea to give a child a small portion and let him (57) back for a second helping rather than give him as much as he is likely to eat all at once. Do not talk too much to the child (58) meal times, but let him get on with his food, and do not allow him to leave the table immediately after a meal or he will soon learn to swallow his food (59) he can hurry back to his toys.
