How you react when faced with written errors can be related to your personality type, according to one study. Researchers at the University of Michigan found that people who get annoyed by errors tend to be introverted(内向的) or have "less agreeable" personalities than those who more easily more that kind of mistakes. 'This is the first study to show that the personalities of listener/readers have an effect on the interpretation of language, " said lead researcher, University of Michigan professor of linguistics and psychology Julie Boland."In this experiment, we examined the social judgments that readers made about the writers." In the study, 83 participants were shown emails written by passible housemates. Some had no errors, while others had either typos ("aslo" instead of 'also") or grammar mistakes ("your" instead of "you're"). The participants were asked to rate the writers in terms of their perceived intelligence, friendliness, trustworthiness and other qualities. Then the participants were asked if they noticed any spelling or grammar mistakes and,if so, how much they were bothered by them. Finally, they were asked to complete the Big Five Personality index (BFI), a 44-question survey that rated them on a scale of extroversion(外向性),agreeability, conscientiousness (being careful to do your work properly),neuroticism(神经) and openness .All the people in the study generally rated the writers with mistakes less favorably than those with perfect letters. Beyond that, they discovered a few key personality traits that seemed to influence how much a few carelessly swapped letters or more serious grammar offenses throw a person's whole world out of order. It turns out that extroverts are more likely to ignore typos and grammatical mistakes than introverts. Also people with "less agreeable" personalities are more sensitive to mistakes than those people who are very agreeable. The researchers say this is "perhaps because less agreeable people are less tolerant of deviations(偏离) from convention."' In other words, bad-tempered people have a harder time than easy-going people dealing with people who break the rules. Both highly conscientious and less open participants were sensitive to typos, but they didn't care all that much about grammar. And,perhaps surprisingly, how neurotic someone was didnt affect how they reacted to grammar and spelling mistakes. So if you have a friend who is constantly pointing out your errors on social media, take comfort in the fact that he is likely a fool, And if it's you who obey every grammar law, then chalk it up to being an introvert .1. What were the participants made to do in the study?A. To express their personality characteristics openly.B. To make an evaluation of the writers of the emails.C. To try to correct some possible errors of the emails.D. To voice their opinions on the emails they received.2. What can we learn about introverts?A. They take personal judgments to heart.B. They often show their mixed emotions.C. They are cautious about their behavior.D. They tend to be sensitive to mistakes.3. Who may not be sensitive to grammar mistakes?A. Those who are intelligent.B. Those who are less agreeable.C. Those who are trustworthy.D. Those who are rather careful.4. What does the text mainly talk about?A. People's personality traits affect their reaction to written mistakes.B. Personality characteristics are influenced by many relevant factors.C. Written errors are a very common phenomenon in our everyday life.D. People are always sensitive to various kinds of errors on social media.

On Sept 15, TripAdvisor, one of the world’s largest travel review websites, named the world’s top 25 museums in its Travelers’ Choice Awards. The awards were based on the reviews and opinions of travelers worldwide. Now let’s take a look at the top four museums around the world. Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City It is the largest museum in the Western Hemisphere, with a collection of 2 million items from more than 5,000 years of world culture. The iconic (标志性的) museum includes important collections from ancient Egypt and medieval (中世纪的) Europe as well as ancient Greece and Rome. A TripAdvisor reviewer commented: “No matter how many times I visit, it never gets old. Paintings from every era, works from every great artist.” Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid Nowhere is able to present the entire history of Spanish art like the Museo Nacional del Prado. Here, visitors can enjoy a detailed view of the Spanish school of the Modern Age. Outstanding masterpieces by artists such as Diego Velázquez, Francisco Goya and Joaquín Sorolla make up an internationally-famous collection. In fact, “the study of almost any Spanish painter and his work is almost impossible without visiting the many galleries of the Museo Nacional del Prado”, Travel Channel noted. The Italian school is another highlight of the museum’s collection, as it includes 15th century masterpieces such as The Annunciation by Fra Angelico, The Death of the Virgin by Andrea Mantegna and The Dead Christ Supported by Angels by Antonello da Messina. The museum also has a fine collection of 16th century Venetian paintings, 17th century French classicists, Baroque paintings and Roman sculptures. Earlier this year, The Young Saint John the Baptist, the classical sculpture by Italian artist Michelangelo Buonarroti, was found in Spain and put on display in the museum. Light and bright, cheap and cheerful: IKEA's 400-plus outlets (专营店) in 49 countries all run on the same central principle. Customer do as much of the work as possible, in the belief that they are having fun and saving money. You drive to a distant warehouse, built on cheap out-of-town land Inside, you enter a maze (迷宫)--- no shortcuts allowed---where every twist reveals new furniture. Compared with the prices of other outlets, IKEA's are much lower. You load up your trolley with impulse (冲动) buys---a clock, storage boxes, tools and more chairs than you will ever use. You drag cardboard boxes, cupboards and tables into your car and reward yourself for your economy and good taste. Then you drive home and put your prizes together. You are satisfied with the bargains. IKEA is satisfied with our money. The company's name was a do-it-yourself job, too. IKEA stands for Ingvar Kamprad from Eimtaryd---his family's farm in Agunnaryd. That village is in the Smaland region of southern Sweden. Mr Kamprad founded IKEA aged 17. Well before that he spotted a principle which would make him one of the richest men in the world: that customers like buying goods at wholesale prices (批发价). First he bought matches in large quantities and sold them by the box. Aged ten, he sold pens in the similar way. Drawbacks inspired him. Facing a price war against his low-cost mail-order furniture business, he defeated competitors by opening a showroom. Dealers tried to crush Mr. Kamprad and banned him from their trade fairs. He slipped in, hiding in a friend's car. When they tried to threaten his appliers, he relied on his own workers and secretly sold his production to communist Poland. Decades later, east Europeans freed from the planned economy drove hundreds of miles to newly opened outlets in Moscow and Warsaw. His self-discipline was world-famous. As a child, he removed the "off" button from his alarm clock to stop himself oversleeping. He rarely took a first-class seat. The wine didn't get you there any earlier, he sniffed; having lots of money was no reason to waste it. He bought his clothes in second hand markets, and for years drove an elderly Volvo until he had to sell it on safety grounds. He had his hair cut in poor countries to save money. Visitors admired their views, but were surprised that his house was so shabby. He worked well into his eighties. His industry and simple way of life set a good example to his 194,000 "co-workers". But he was not mean. The point of cutting costs was to make goods affordable, not to compromise quality. He urged is staff to reflect constantly on ways of saving money, time and space. An improved design that allows easier piling means shipping less air---and more profit. Culture was more important than strategy. He disliked "exaggerated (言过其实的) planning", along with financial markets and banks. Better to make mistakes and learn from them. And use time wisely: "You can do so much in ten minutes. But ten minutes once gone are gone for good." This did not apply to customers. The longer they stayed the better. Mr. Kamprad's impact on modern life can be compared with that of Henry Ford and the mass-produced motor car. Furniture used to be expensive, dark and heavy. For many people, decorating a home could cost many months' salary. IKEA made furniture not just affordable and functional, but fun. The mission was civilizational, he felt, changing how people lived and thought. His approach drew some fire. The company values struck some as unpleasant. At IKEA's Corporate Culture Centre, lots of pictures of Mr. Kamprad with his mottos can be seen everywhere. What's worse, some parts of the supply chain seemed to have serious problems to overcome.(1)What can we learn about IKEA in Paragraph 1? ____ A. IKEA prefers rural areas for its location.B. IKEA has 400 outlets throughout the world.C. IKEA likes to store new furniture in a maze.D. IKEA provides a lot of work for its customers.(2)The underlined two sentences in Paragraph 2 imply that ____ .A. IKEA tricks you into spending more moneyB. You may buy bargains with impulse in IKEAC. Both you and IKEA are pleased with the dealD. Both you and IKEA are happy with the bargain(3)By mentioning Mr. Kamprad's experiences before he founded IKEA, the author intends to tell us that Mr. Kamprad ____ .A. was likely to become a successful businessmanB. preferred selling matches and pens by low pricesC. had been a well-off merchant due to his principleD. enjoyed doing something promising with discipline(4)What can be inferred from Paragraphs 5 and 6 about Mr. Kamprad? ____ A. He never overslept due to his alarm clock being set.B. He was against drinking but for sniffing at the wine.C. He sold the old Volvo with the purpose of saving money.D. He didn't sacrifice the quality of furniture for more profit.(5)Which of the following has nothing to do with Mr. Kamprad's success in business? ____ A. The pictures and mottos of Mr. KampradB. The drawbacks Mr. Kamprad experienced.C. Mr. Kamprad's principles of management.D. Mr. Kamprad's self-discipline and industry.(6)The passage is mainly about ____ .A. The factors contributing to the success of IKEAB. The causes of people buying furniture from IKEAC. Mr. Kamprad's road to success in furniture businessD. Ask a college freshman what he or she is excited about, and the list might range from the lack of a curfew (宵禁) to the unlimited dining hall pizza. What is likely not on the list? Learning how to make smart financial decisions. And that's too bad, say experts, as that's exactly what all students need to focus on.Millennials (干福一代) are not very savvy (精通的) about money. In fact, a recent study, which surveyed 42,000 college freshmen across the US, found that since 2012 students are less likely to follow a budget, pay credit card bills on time or buy only the things they need."Most of these kids come from homes whose parents don't possess any kind of plan for the money except planning their next vacation or doing Christmas," says Jim Chilton, CEO of the non-profit Society for Financial Awareness. "When these young folks hit college, it's a wave of indecision... as they punch in quickly Mommy and Daddy's cell numbers to find out how they're going to get by."Millennials know they're in for some pain. They face higher levels of a student loan debt—two-thirds of recent bachelor's degree recipients have outstanding student loans, with a average debt of about 37,500.1. What did the study find about college freshmen?AThey learn to budget their money.BThey spend much money on luxury goods.CThey pay credit card bills on their own.DThey buy things even if they do not need them.

The Harry Potter series, written by J.K. Rowling, is perhaps the most popular set of novels of the modern era. With seven books and many successful films to its name, the series has gathered about 15 billion dollars in sales. How did the series become so popular? The reason can be broken down into several areas. The first book in the series was rejected 12 times before it was picked up by Bloomsbury—a small publisher in England. So receiving this contract was Rowling's first step to success. However, getting a book contract does not ensure the success of a book. The story was soon loved by children and adults alike. In light of this, Bloomsbury Publishing published a second version of the books with “adult” (less colorful and more boring) book covers. This made it easier for a full range of ages to enjoy the series.Another factor that worked like a charm was that the publisher and Rowling herself, through the books, conducted midnight releases, promotions, and pre-ordering more readers. Customers who feared that their local bookstore would run out of copies responded by pre-ordering over 700,000 copies before the July 8, 2000 release. What does the underlined word “releases” (Para. 3) mean?A. The activity that frees or expresses energy or emotion.B. The announcement about the book’s publishing information.C. The sales of books that is available only at midnight.

question or statement.Hot pot is a traditional dish in China. It is believed to date back more than 1,000 years to the time of the Jin Dynasty. Hot pot's origins can be found in the dining practices of Mongolian horsemen who rode across the steppe and into northern China. Legend has it that the Mongols used their helmets as pots to simmer (炖) broth (汤底) over open fires, and cooked chunks of meat in the broth.Hot pot cooking seems to have spread to northern China during the Tang Dynasty. In the regional variations developed with different ingredients such as seafood. In the centuries that witnessed the growth of the Song Dynasty, hot pot moved — and changed — further south, with each successive region adapting it to their local ingredients and tastes. The ingredients in a hot pot vary a lot from region to region. Perhaps the most famous hot pot is the Chongqing or Sichuan hot pot. It features a dark red broth chock-full (塞满了的) of spices, chili peppers, and the uniquely mouth-numbing Sichuan peppers. In Beijing and elsewhere in the north, hot pot broth tends to be mild and, compared to its racy southern "cousins", a little light. In the northeast of China, a kind of local sauerkraut (酸菜) is used to add some tang (强烈的味道), making the broth a bit sour. People can choose a version of hot pot according to their taste.1 Hot pot is believed to date back more than 1,000 years to the time of _______.A. the Jin Dynasty B. the Tang DynastyC. the Song Dynasty D. the Yuan Dynasty

The increase in international business and in foreign investment has created a need for executives with knowledge of foreign languages and skills in cross-cultural communication. Americans, however, have not been well trained in either area and, consequently, have not enjoyed the same level of success in negotiation in an international arena as have their foreign counterparts. Negotiating is the process of communicating back and forth for the purpose of reaching an agreement. It involves persuasion and compromise, but in order to participate in either one, the negotiators must understand the ways in which people are persuaded and how compromise is reached within the culture of the negotiation. In many international business negotiations abroad, Americans are perceived as wealthy and impersonal. It often appears to the foreign negotiator that the American represents a large multi-million-dollar corporation that can afford to pay the price without bargaining further. The American negotiator’s role becomes that of an impersonal supplier of information and cash. In studies of American negotiators abroad, several traits have been identified that may serve to confirm this stereotypical perception, while undermining the negotiator’s position. Two traits in particular that cause cross-cultural misunderstanding are directness and impatience on the part of the American negotiator. Furthermore, American negotiators often insist on realizing short-term goals. Foreign negotiators, on the other hand, may value the relationship established between negotiators and may be willing to invest time in it for long-term benefits. In order to solidify the relationship, they may opt for indirect interactions without regard for the time involved in getting to know the other negotiator. Clearly, perceptions and differences in values affect the outcomes of negotiations and the success of negotiators. For Americans to play a more effective role in international business negotiations, they must put forth more effort to improve cross-cultural understanding. [共5题](1)What kind of manager is needed in present international business and foreign investment? [本题2分]A. The man who represents a large multi-million-dollar corporation. B.
