27Thinking kind thoughts about yourself and your loved ones can prove beneficial for your overall wellbeing, empirical evidence has shown. Researchers carried out an investigation to explore the 26 between having kind thoughts and a person’s psychological state. For the study, five groups of participants were presented with a different set of audio instructions, some of which encouraged the participants to think 27 about themselves and others which persuaded them to think in a self-critical manner. After listening to the audio instructions, the participants were asked to answer a series of questions. These included whether they felt agitated, how likely they were to show kindness to themselves and how 28 they felt to other individuals. The participants who were instructed to think kindly about themselves were more likely to exhibit a bodily response associated with being relaxed and feeling safe. Their heart rates also dropped, which is a healthy sign of a heart that can respond flexibly to situations. Yet, 29 , those who listened to the critical audio clips were noted as having a higher heart rate and sweat response afterwards, both of which 30 feelings of threat and distress.Having the ability to switch off the body’s natural threat response can 31 a person’s immune system. This, in turn, gives them a greater likelihood of recovering quickly from illness. These findings help us to further understand some of our clinical trials research findings, where we show that individuals with 32 depression benefit particularly from self-awareness-based 33 therapy. They essentially learn to become more sympathetic to themselves. The sense is that for people 34 to depression, meeting their negative thoughts and feelings with 35 is a radically different way; that these thoughts are not facts. To write his 2010 book, The 5-Factor World Diet, nutritionist Harley Pasternak traveled to the healthiest countries around the world to learn more about what made their meals extra nourishing. He noted that Japanese people ate a wonderful variety of seaweeds, and that Chinese people tried to include at least five different colors in every meal. Pasternak also came away with some valuable observations about how different the North American way of life was, compared with many other countries. For starters, American eat much bigger portions than people in other countries. "We don´t prioritize eating seasonally or locally, and we also add lots of salt, sugar and thickening agents to our foods," explained Pasternak. Contrast that to the healthy Mediterranean, Nordic and Okinawan diets listed in Pasternak´s book. They all seem to stick to the ethos (特质) of regional, seasonal produce. For example, a traditional Mediterranean diet includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and olive oil as the main components of nutritional intake. Fish, chicken and red wine make moderate appearances, while red meat, salt and sugar are used much less often. The benefits of a traditional Mediterranean diet have been studied since the 1970s, and researchers have found that living that olive oil life can help people lose weight, lower their heart disease risk and reverse diabetes. Most other healthy eating cultures also make meals an event—say, multiple courses around the family table, or a glass or two of red wine at a long lunch—as opposed to hastily wolfing down handfuls of cereal above the kitchen sink and calling it dinner. Each of the healthy eating cultures has its own unique feature. But Pasternak did take note of one unifying factor in all of the healthy societies he observed. "The only overlapping feature in most of these healthy countries is that they all walk way more than the average American," said Pasternak. "So really, regardless of what you´re eating, if someone´s walking four miles more than you each day, they´re going to be a lot thinner and live a lot longer than you."1、What characterizes Japanese and Chinese foods?A.Variety.B.Flavor.C.olor.D.Naturalness.2、What is typical of Americans in the way of eating?E.They emphasize nutrition.F.They tend to eat quite a lot.G.They prioritize convenience.H.They care about flavors.3、What features in Mediterranean, Nordic and Okinawan diets?I.Fruits and vegetables.J.Olive oil and red wine.K.Seasonal local produce.L.Unprocessed ingredients.4、What do people in most healthy eating cultures have in common?M.They get the whole family to eat at a table.N.They eat their meals regularly and punctually.O.They consume plenty of cereal for breakfast.P.They attach great importance to their meals.5、Compared with the average American, people in healthy societiesQ.walk at least 4 miles a dayR.do considerably more walkingS.pay more attention to body shapeT.consume a lot more organic food

[听力文本资源] For the Boao International Tourism Forum that opened this weekend in Boao, Hainan Island, we hope it isn't full of empty talks about the general development of tourism. What we would like to see is for the forum to be concerned about the island's housing and hotel prices, which will threaten island tourism in the long run. Immediately after the central government's January announcement to develop the island into an international tourist attraction, housing and hotel prices on the island soared quickly. They have been five times higher than the prices before the announcement. The central government's plan by no means wants to make the island into a scenery attraction for the rich. But 10,000 yuan for one night at a three-star hotel for a family of three is far too high for even white-collar professionals. The sudden increase has indeed attracted many investors to the island, and both local government and real estate developers must have made a tidy sum in the past months. But traveling to and staying on this island has been a great trouble for many families who enjoy seeing the beautiful landscape on the island. National rush for houses will only push housing prices higher in the near future. If bubbles are popping up in the housing market and vacationing is becoming far too expensive, tourism will take a massive hit. With all this in mind, the healthy and stable development of tourism should be one of the major topics for the forum.[听力文本资源]1. [听力文本资源] What will influence Hainan Island's tourism directly? The Harry Potter series, written by J.K. Rowling, is perhaps the most popular set of novels of the modern era. With seven books and many successful films to its name, the series has gathered about 15 billion dollars in sales. How did the series become so popular? The reason can be broken down into several areas. The first book in the series was rejected 12 times before it was picked up by Bloomsbury—a small publisher in England. So receiving this contract was Rowling's first step to success. However, getting a book contract does not ensure the success of a book. The story was soon loved by children and adults alike. In light of this, Bloomsbury Publishing published a second version of the books with “adult” (less colorful and more boring) book covers. This made it easier for a full range of ages to enjoy the series.Another factor that worked like a charm was that the publisher and Rowling herself, through the books, conducted midnight releases, promotions, and pre-ordering more readers. Customers who feared that their local bookstore would run out of copies responded by pre-ordering over 700,000 copies before the July 8, 2000 release. What does the underlined word “releases” (Para. 3) mean?A. The activity that frees or expresses energy or emotion.B. The announcement about the book’s publishing information.C. The sales of books that is available only at midnight.

The increase in international business and in foreign investment has created a need for executives with knowledge of foreign languages and skills in cross-cultural communication. Americans, however, have not been well trained in either area and, consequently, have not enjoyed the same level of success in negotiation in an international arena as have their foreign counterparts. Negotiating is the process of communicating back and forth for the purpose of reaching an agreement. It involves persuasion and compromise, but in order to participate in either one, the negotiators must understand the ways in which people are persuaded and how compromise is reached within the culture of the negotiation. In many international business negotiations abroad, Americans are perceived as wealthy and impersonal. It often appears to the foreign negotiator that the American represents a large multi-million-dollar corporation that can afford to pay the price without bargaining further. The American negotiator’s role becomes that of an impersonal supplier of information and cash. In studies of American negotiators abroad, several traits have been identified that may serve to confirm this stereotypical perception, while undermining the negotiator’s position. Two traits in particular that cause cross-cultural misunderstanding are directness and impatience on the part of the American negotiator. Furthermore, American negotiators often insist on realizing short-term goals. Foreign negotiators, on the other hand, may value the relationship established between negotiators and may be willing to invest time in it for long-term benefits. In order to solidify the relationship, they may opt for indirect interactions without regard for the time involved in getting to know the other negotiator. Clearly, perceptions and differences in values affect the outcomes of negotiations and the success of negotiators. For Americans to play a more effective role in international business negotiations, they must put forth more effort to improve cross-cultural understanding. [共5题](1)What kind of manager is needed in present international business and foreign investment? [本题2分]A. The man who represents a large multi-million-dollar corporation. B.
