In her new series "Colour me Healthy", Verity looks at the ways that colours can influence how hard we work and the choices we make. They can even change our feelings and even influence our health. "Have you ever noticed how people always use the same colours for the same things? " says Verity. "Our toothpaste is always white or blue or maybe red. It's never green. Why not? For some reason we think that blue and white is clean, while we think of green products(产品)as being a bit unpleasant. It's the same for businesses. We respect a company which writes its name in blue or black, but we don't respect one that uses pink or orange. People who design (设计) new products can use these ideas to influence what we buy. " During the four﹣part series, Verity studies eight different colours, two colours in each programme. She meets people who work in all aspects of the colour industry, from people who design food packages, to people who name the colours of lipsticks. Some of the people she meets clearly have very little scientific knowledge to support their ideas, such as the American "Colour Doctor" who believes that serious diseases can be cured by the use of coloured lights. However, she also interviews real scientists who are studying the effects of green and red lights on mice, with some surprising results. Overall, it's an interesting show, and anyone who watches it will , probably find out something new. But because Verity meets people in her polite way on the series, the viewers should make their own decisions about how much they should believe.(1)What does Paragraph 2 talk about?________A.Colours can help you to get new ideas.B.Colours can help you to cheer up quickly.C.olours can help you to respect a company.D.Colours can help you to sell products easily..(2)Which of the following shows the probable content of the four shows?________A.Cleaning products; Colour Industry; Clothes; FoodB.Health; Products and Industry; Emotions; DecisionsC.Blue and Black; Red and Orange; White and Grey; Green and YellowD.Meeting Designers; Meeting Patients; Meeting Doctors; Meeting Scientists.(3)Who does the writer respect least?________A. • The increase in international business and in foreign investment has created a need for executives with knowledge of foreign languages and skills in cross-cultural communication. Americans, however, have not been well trained in either area and, consequently, have not enjoyed the same level of success in negotiation in an international arena as have their foreign counterparts. Negotiating is the process of communicating back and forth for the purpose of reaching an agreement. It involves persuasion and compromise, but in order to participate in either one, the negotiators must understand the ways in which people are persuaded and how compromise is reached within the culture of the negotiation. In many international business negotiations abroad, Americans are perceived as wealthy and impersonal. It often appears to the foreign negotiator that the American represents a large multi-million-dollar corporation that can afford to pay the price without bargaining further. The American negotiator’s role becomes that of an impersonal supplier of information and cash. In studies of American negotiators abroad, several traits have been identified that may serve to confirm this stereotypical perception, while undermining the negotiator’s position. Two traits in particular that cause cross-cultural misunderstanding are directness and impatience on the part of the American negotiator. Furthermore, American negotiators often insist on realizing short-term goals. Foreign negotiators, on the other hand, may value the relationship established between negotiators and may be willing to invest time in it for long-term benefits. In order to solidify the relationship, they may opt for indirect interactions without regard for the time involved in getting to know the other negotiator. Clearly, perceptions and differences in values affect the outcomes of negotiations and the success of negotiators. For Americans to play a more effective role in international business negotiations, they must put forth more effort to improve cross-cultural understanding. [共5题](1)What kind of manager is needed in present international business and foreign investment? [本题2分]A. The man who represents a large multi-million-dollar corporation. B. The man with knowledge of foreign languages and skills in cross-cultural communication. C. The man who is wealthy and impersonal. D. The man who can negotiate with his foreign counterparts.

  • "There is a senseless concept that children grow up and leave home when they're 18,and the truth is far from that,"says sociologist Larry Bumpass of the University of Wisconsin.Today, unexpected numbers of young adults are living with their parents."There is a major change in the middle class,"declares sociologist Allan Schnaiberg of Northwestern University, whose son,19,moved back in after an absence of eight months.Analysts list a variety of reasons for this return to the nest. The marriage age is rising,a condition that makes home and its pleasantness particularly attractive to young people.A high divorce rate and a declining remarriage rate are sending economically pressed and emotionally hurt survivors back to parental shelters. For some, the expense of an away-from-home college education has become so extremely great that many students now attend local schools.Even after graduation, young people find their wings clipped(夹住) by skyrocketing housing costs.Living at home, says Knighton,a school teacher, continues to give her security and moral support. Her mother agreed,"It's ridiculous for the kids to pay all that money for rent.It makes sense for kids to stay at home."But sharing the family home requires adjustments for all. There are the hassles over bathrooms, telephones and privacy. Some families, however, manage the delicate balancing act.But for others,it proves too difficult.Michelle Del Turco,24,has been home three times-and left three times."What I considered a social drink,my dad considered an alcohol problem,"she explains."He never liked anyone I dated,so I either had to hide away or meet them at friends'houses."Just how long should adult children live with their parents before moving on?Most psychologists feel lengthy homecomings are a mistake.Children struggling to establish separate identities, can end up with"a sense of inadequacy, defeat and failure."And aging parents, who should be enjoying some financial and personal freedom, find themselves stuck with responsibilities. Many agree that brief visits, however, can work beneficially.63.According to the author, there was once a trend (趋势) in the U.S ____ .A.for middle class young adults to stay with their parents.B.for young adults to get jobs nearby in order to live with their parents.C.for married young adults to move back home after a lengthy absence.D.for young adults to leave their parents and live independently.64.Which of the following does not account for young adults returning to the nest? ____ A.Young adults find housing costs too high.B.Quite a number of young adults attend local schools.C.Young adults are psychologically and intellectually immature.D.Young adults seek parental comfort and moral support.65.One of the disadvantages of young adults returning to stay with their parents is that ____ .A.the young adults tend to be overprotected by their parentsB.there will unavoidably be inconveniences in everyday lifeC.most parents find it difficult to keep a bigger family goingD.public opinion is against young adults staying with their parents66.The word"hassles"in the passage (Para.3,Line 4)probably means ____ .A.agreementsB.worriesC.disadvantagesD.quarrels
